The Lloydminster Border Blades speed skating club started in 1991. Our most famous skater is Krisy Myers, who was on the National Development team for two years. In 1999, she earned a spot on the Senior National team where she competed until retiring in 2007. She earned her place as a long track sprinter at the 2006 Torino Olympics.
Now Krisy is back with the Border Blades as a coach. Having Krisy as a founding club member inspires our athletes to reach their goals. Whether they are personal bests, qualifying for Provincial teams or perhaps one day being a National team member and Olympian, our athletes aspire for greatness.
Season: We begin training in October and continue until mid-March. Practices are 2 or 3 days per week depending on the
skater’s age.
Meets: Attending meets is voluntary but encouraged! There are competitions in nearby in Alberta and Saskatchewan. We also host 4 mini-meets for our club as well as a larger invitational meet called Fire on Ice.
Volunteering: We count on families to help volunteer at meets, on the executive and for fundraising. We will train you if you are new to the sport.
Ability Class: Our club operates as an Ability Class organization. We group our skaters according to their skating times and not their ages. This provides meaningful competition for our entire club by having closer races.
